I like it but it broke – Warranty Awful, May 9, 2015

    Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
I am amending this review to reflect my experience since I bought this tv. I bought this in early May. In June I started having issues with the sound. Whenever I used some sort of device such as a Roku or Apple Tv, sound would go and I would have to unplug the tv and essentially reboot it. Tech Support had me do some sort of reboot with the remote which helped for a while. The problem returned in July and then one day, the tv wouldn’t turn on. Tech support quickly realized I needed to have someone come out. Tech support was fine. The problem was the warranty folks. I was kept on hold a long time and was treated rudely when I asked a simple question. I was also told someone would call in 3-5 days (!) to set up an appointment. Through Twitter (I communicated with Sharp through Twitter which worked well) I learned that someone was supposed to come on the 12th of August. No one came. I got a call on the 13th and someone came out. Fortunately, it was a day I was able to work with. That person was very nice. He replaced two boards, one for the sound issue and one for the tv not turning on. This fixed the problem. But the sound problem has since returned. It is the same. If I try to rewind on Roku or Apple tv, sometimes I lose sound. Warranty wants to send me a refurbished, use piece of equipment. It insists that I am outside the warranty coverage period. I explain I spoke with them less than two months after I got the tv. They are refusing to honor that initial date. Sharp itself said it will work on the problem.

As to the tv itself. For the price, it is a nice tv. It is extremely light, very bright and has a very thin frame. I was surprised at how much smaller flat screens have gotten, in terms of their frames, over the past 7 or 8 years. This is not, however, a truly smart TV. There is a Netflix button on the remote which has never worked. I cannot get Netflix to work directly through the Internet on this tv. I have a Roku though, so I didn’t care about it. There are a limited number of channels available through the Smart portion of the tv. So, if you are looking for a truly Smart tv with a lot of channels available, this isn’t it. At least not as of this moment. However, it does connect to the Internet and it does have a few channels. I simply haven’t tried to use any of them beyond Netflix.

Hopefully the tv won’t break again. When it is working, it is nice.

Not only is it VERY reasonably priced for the features and quality but they have free 30 day tech support with it right now on A, April 3, 2015

Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What’s this?)
Let me start with explaining that our family has owned several previous generations of the Sharp Aquos TV before it became available with this smart TV option so we jumped at the chance to test out this upgraded version with all the latest technology.

Let me tell you we were impressed! The Picture is very sharp (no pun intended) and clear, it was easy to set up and has all the features that my daughter paid almost twice as much for with her smart TV purchase just this past Christmas!

The actual dimensions for the 40″ (39.5″ diagonal) AQUOS LC-40LE653U is 35.5″ wide by almost 22″ tall but due to the ultra thin bezel it appears to have a larger screen than other 40″ TVs when you look at them side by side. It only weighs 25 pounds so I can move it easily all by myself!

For those of you that are older (like me) and perhaps a bit “tech” challenged it currently comes with a bonus of Free 30-Day Tech Support from the date it is delivered to you if you buy it on Amazon. If you have any questions whatsoever or need someone to walk you through the set up they have trained technicians you can call that will help you with the set up, configuring, connecting etc…

I know I amgushing but it really is sleek and gorgeous with its modern minimalist style, besides coming with all the bells and whistles that this Smart TV has, with its 1080p Full HD resolution and the SmartCentral Apps for the “smart” TV access. The wallpaper mode that it comes with is also a very nice feature. along with it having two HDMI inputs including MHL, and the built-in 20w audio, this has everything we wanted in a Full HD LED Smart TV!

So far a great smart tv, April 4, 2015
    By

So far a great smart tv. This was our first smart tv so we were on a learning curve. Tv portion was easy just plug in your over the air standard
antenna and you get a 1080 screen limited only by what format is being locally broadcast. Great picture from our rooftop hd antenna no drop outs.
just choose your input and it works. Remote control takes a few minutes to learn to cursor around to make selections. Learn where the input exit and return buttons are first. Secondly click in a box as required to enter text and numbers as required and enter.
Our primary purpose was a good hd 1080p tv. The smart function was a extra.

wi-fi setup requires a active router (of course). We use a year old linksys N type. Your internet speed matters but screams along on comcast 60 meg down the pipe .Highest VUDU requirements were met after VUDU online test approval for their best download capability. Im not sure I can afford all that VUDU offers however.

Built in browser works but does not support flash video. Its just NOT Chrome. Its at best just kind of a clunky browser but thats about it. Read the news on CNN oh well better than no browser at all and much better than the poor excuse for a browser on a PS3. Ive seen alot of 3rd part browsers and this ones not the worse but it could be a lot better. Not a deal breaker.

Wi-Fi is a bear to set up. Just expect it. I had to call sharp but found a youtube video through a google search ( gee Im not the only one)
In the wi-fi setup process there are3 choices for setup. Choose the middle “search” option and follow the prompts including the required AP ID number. If you get lost use google to search for the tutorial video. Works well when set up tremendous pictures highest speed no wires required to the tv. Its just little hard to get going when your trying to learn everything at once. Its worth the effort.

Only one negative is the lack of some other ap access like Crackle. (well its free you see)
A call to Sharp revealed it CANNOT be added. That was the only weak spot in the whole tv.
Theres a pretty good choice built in including Youtube,Netflix,VUDU etc but it would be nice add more services.
Check your streaming services BEFORE you buy. If its included this is a great first smart tv.
Dont hesitate to buy it for about$350 to 400. Great deal just know what your getting.

Footnote it comes with Miracast. I am exploring how its used to apparently move video.
Stay tuned for updates but this is a heck of a lot of technology for under $400.
Ive been around TV for a long time but this is a fine tv.
If it was only UHD we could future proof it with Ultra High Definition which is slowly invading America.
But do I have to have UHD in a bedroom? Probably not.
